I have also cut out sweets, including chocolate, all candy bars, and coca cola, with only an occasional bite of a dessert on a special occasion. I think for me the key has been eliminating most refined sugars. I feel much better for it, even though I have about 28 pounds to go. I have tried to diet by tracking points and calories and even going low carb. I'm happy that I have finally found something that works for me. It sounds like you have too...congrats! E.
